This is how I woke up last Friday. It was a much better day.
Hell yes I’m reblogging myself. This is my first (and I’m sure only post) that will achieve the 100,000+ note mark. I mention this only because I don’t get it. I like the picture because it’s a memory but really, it’s blurry and lopsided.
Every long hike has it’s dream-like episodes—moments when the wilderness shines out and life seems exquisite in ways that it can’t amid the din of the civilized world.
This isn’t happening soon enough.
I met this woman in the Wallowa Mountains in Oregon. I FREAKED THE FUCK OUT.
The cat went backpacking with her. Slept through a giant thunderstorm with her in the sleeping bag.
And then I look at my cat and wonder why she is such a whore.

This is my new favorite tumblr.
I spoke with the manager of the Bearpaw High Sierra Camp today. She told me that the reservation period opens on January 2nd at 7:00am and they typically are 96% sold out by the end of the day.
It is still the intent to go Labor Day weekend. However, if I can’t work my phone magic we will try for either the weekend before or the weekend after.

This was my first big multi-day trip. It truly set the tone for what I expect of the Sierras. I know a lot of people dream of doing the Pacific Crest trail or the John Muir Trail.
Step for Step, Mile for Mile the High Sierra Trail offers more splendor and beauty than any trail I’ve been on in the Sierras. If you only had seven days to spend in the Sierras I would recommend this trail.
Also, if you’re planning on attending the Hiking Meetup next summer we will be covering the first 5th or so of this trail.

I was going to leave this without much else but I didn’t spend nearly enough time in the mountains this year and the easy available season is coming to a close. Everything is simpler there. It would just be nice to be sleeping outside.
