I’m a Boss.

I don’t mean that I’m a boss like I’m dominating something I’m attempting
to do. I’m a boss in the much more traditional sense. I have people that
report to me and to whom I am responsible for ensuring they are safe, well
trained and proficient at doing their jobs.

Being a boss sucks a lot of the time. No matter what you do or how good you
are someone will think you are intentionally trying to take something from
them. They will you think you are playing favorites. They will think you
are an idiot because you can’t do what they do as good as they can.

I do everything I can to play by the rules. To treat all of my people
‘Fairly’ and to uphold the values and methods of this business that
provides all of us gainfull, well paid and benefited employement. I don’t
know all the rules and I couldn’t possibly know all the rules. The rule
book is 339 pages long and doesn’t include the ‘local’ agreements or past
practices. I can’t change the rules no matter how much I would like to.

I signed up for the job. I willingly do it but still I get frustrated. I
lose sleep thinking about how I can show people that the rules aren’t
personal. The rules were built to ensure fairness. Sometimes that means you
don’t get what you want. It doesn’t mean I’m out to get you. It just means
that you can’t have what you want right now.

I’m rambling now but I had to throw this out in hopes that it would quit
bothering me.
